- The GI strips are made from fully galvanized iron.
- The galvanized iron strips must conform to IS: 2629 (1966) standards.

- The zinc coating on the GI strips should not be less than 610 grams per square meter of the galvanized surface area.
- The weight of the zinc coating is determined as per the method stipulated in IS: 2633 (1972).
